Irish Thoroughbred Marketing (ITM), with the support of Horse Racing Ireland and the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB), is coordinating the introduction of barrier trials to Ireland, starting at Dundalk Racecourse from May 2018.
The first set of barrier trials will take place on May 6th with two barrier trials scheduled for unraced two-year-olds. The trials will be conducted over either five or six furlongs and be subject to the scrutiny of the IHRB. The first trial will take place approximately 90 minutes before the first race on the card, with the second trial scheduled approximately 20 minutes later.
Restricted to unraced horses only, each participating horse must have a starting stalls certificate, be in the care of a fully licensed trainer and be ridden by licensed jockeys under catchweights, that is without a weight restriction, as is the practice overseas. The cost is projected to be €100, payable to Dundalk Racecourse, as is the case for schooling races.
The trials will be recorded, timed and available to view on ITM’s website and social media channels. Entries for trials can be made through the ITM website, or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Alternatively, trainers can call the ITM office on 045 44 3060.
