Irish Thoroughbred Marketing (ITM), with the support of Horse Racing Ireland and the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB), is coordinating the introduction of barrier trials to Ireland, starting at Dundalk Racecourse from May 2018.
The first set of Barrier Trials took place on May 6th for unraced two-year-olds over five furlongs, subject to the scrutiny of the IHRB. The next two Trials will take place on July 12th with the first batch taking place approximately 90 minutes before
the first race on the card, with the second trial scheduled approximately 20 minutes later.
Restricted to unraced horses only, each participating horse must have a starting stalls certificate, be in the care of a fully licensed trainer and be ridden by licensed jockeys under catchweights, that is without a weight restriction, as is the practice
overseas. The cost is projected to be €150, payable to Dundalk Racecourse, as is the case for schooling races. A provision of €50 payable to the jockey from the owners’ account is also required via the ‘Make and Entry’ section on this site.
The trials will be recorded, timed and available to view on ITM’s website and social media channels. Entries for trials can be made through the ITM website, or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Alternatively,
trainers can call 087 112 1625.
