GIGGINSTOWN 1-2 IN DOWN ROYAL FEATURE

06 November 2017

Michael O’Leary’s Gigginstown House Stud had the one-two in the Grade 1 Champion Chase at Down Royal on Sunday. The Gordon Elliott-trained OUTLANDER (IRE) who was sent off a wide 16/1 and the Noel Meade-trained Road To Respect (IRE) were involved in a great tussle in the final stages of the race. However, a gallant effort from the former saw him beat Road To Respect (IRE) by half a length.

Bred by Ronnie O’Neill in County Kilkenny, OUTLANDER (IRE) is a son of the late Stowaway who once stood at his Whytemount Stud. The nine-year-old gelding is a half-brother to five winners including Grade 2 winning hurdlers Western Leader (IRE) and Ice Cold Soul (IRE). He was purchased by Phillip Fenton at the Tattersalls Derby Sale in 2011 for €78,000.
