RENE’S GIRL (IRE) confirmed her exciting potential over fences when running out a ten length winner of the Listed Yorkshire Silver Vase Mares’ Chase at Doncaster on Tuesday. The Dan Skelton-trained eight-year-old won three times over hurdles before impressing on her chase debut at Worcester in October. A shorter trip last time out led to disappointment but a return to two and a half miles suited her well, as she led from the second fence and gradually drew away from her four rivals from four out. She was eased down on the line as Song Saa did her best to narrow the gap.

The Grade 1 Manifesto Chase at Aintree is next for the Michael Hanrahan-bred mare, who was bought for €75,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale. By Glenview Stud sire Presenting, she is a half-sister to Swamp Fox (IRE), a very useful flat handicapper and second in last year’s Galway Hurdle. Hanrahan also bred their King’s Theatre (IRE) dam Brogella (IRE), whom Francis Crowley trained to win two Graded races and finish third in the Grade 1 Hatton’s Grace Hurdle. Aidan O’Brien trained the Listed-placed third dam Metroella (IRE), while the great Beef Or Salmon (IRE) features further down the page.
