US STAKES SUCCESS FOR IRISH MARE

12 September 2017

Former Irish trainee QUINTA VERDE (IRE) gained a well-deserved first Stakes success over the weekend, taking the Listed River Cities Stakes at Louisiana Downs by three and a quarter lengths. Racing over an extended mile on firm turf, the five-year-old chased the leader under Diego Saenz and began to improve from the back straight to assume the lead turning for home. Racing home strongly, Smiley Briley was left to chase her home, finishing three parts of a length in front of Pera in third.

Bought by Edward Lynam for €12,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale, QUINTA VERDE (IRE) finished third on debut in a Leopardstown maiden for the County Meath trainer, before taking third in the Group 3 Grangecon Stud Stakes and Listed Silken Glider Stakes, the latter being won by subsequent Group 1 winner Together Forever (IRE). The daughter of Tamayuz is now trained by Brad Cox for Swift Thoroughbreds Inc, Sheep Pond Partners and Bradley Thoroughbreds.

She was bred by Shadwell Estate out of the winning Invincible Spirit (IRE) mare Tatbeeq (IRE), herself a half-sister to dual Listed winner Crosspeace (IRE), from the family of Richmond Stakes winner Nomination and 2,000 Guineas third Muscatite.
