Dates set for return of Irish EBF Barrier Trials

Irish Thoroughbred Marketing has announced that Irish EBF Barrier Trials will return for three dates later this summer at Dundalk Stadium.
The trials are scheduled to take place on Monday June 28, Wednesday August 18 and Monday September 13. They will again be restricted to unraced two-year-olds and three-year-old thoroughbreds and will be held over five furlongs, six furlongs and seven furlongs.
All horses entering must be named, returned in training and hold a stalls certificate. All Covid-19 protocols will be observed as per regular race days at the time. Connections will be asked to declare for both Monday dates on the preceding Thursday to allow more time for crosschecking vaccinations and stalls certificates.
Jeremy Greene of Irish Thoroughbred Marketing said, “ITM has run these barrier trials with the cooperation of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board since 2018. The trials are being run primarily to meet significant demand, both locally and abroad, for quality unraced horses.
“Last year, two dates staged at Dundalk in July and September attracted 143 entries from 40 different stables. Some 25 individual winners have emerged from those occasions, most notably Group 1 National Stakes winner Thunder Moon, dual Group 3 scorer A Case Of You and Cathkin Peak, a Listed winner in California.
“Many more winners from previous dates have surfaced, including in Britain and Hong Kong, and connections from as far afield as Australia have bought into unraced graduates that have performed well in the trials.”
As before, IRIS will be on hand to record the trials and videos of each heat will be uploaded to YouTube and social media channels immediately afterwards. The possibility of airing them live through YouTube or another channel is also being explored.
This summer’s dates will be advertised on the HRI RAS entries webpage two weeks in advance with entries opening shortly afterwards.
