Goffs Nov Foal Sale 2018 TEXT

The 2018 renewal of Goffs premier foal sale will take place over four days and in two parts with a 1,093-strong catalogue of outstanding quality and depth. Part I of Ireland's flagship foal auction will begin Monday 19th November and run through to Wednesday 21st November, while Part II of the sale will conclude with a single session of foal trade on Saturday 24th November.

Multiple offerings by Champion sire Galileo (IRE) headline another world-class selection of foals. Leading consignors The Castlebridge Consignment will offer all four Galileo (IRE) youngsters including a half-brother to the dual Group 1 winner Zoustar in Lot 637, as well as Lot 709, a half-sister to the two-time Derby hero and Gilltown Stud first-crop sire Harzand (IRE). The blue-blooded quartet is completed by Lot 570, a filly out of a daughter to European Champion Banks Hill, herself an own sister to Champs Elysees (IRE) and finally Lot 680, a half-brother to Group 2 Lowther Stakes scorer Besharah (IRE).

The diverse sire profile includes foals by established sires Acclamation, Camacho, Camelot, Dandy Man (IRE), Dark Angel (IRE), Holy Roman Emperor (IRE), Invincible Spirit (IRE), Kodiac, Lope De Vega (IRE), Mastercraftsman (IRE), Sea The Stars (IRE) and Teofilo (IRE), as well as exciting newcomers No Nay Never, Australia, Ruler Of The World (IRE) and Slade Power (IRE).

Among the first-crop sires featured are Ajaya, Awtaad (IRE), Belardo (IRE), Buratino (IRE), Coulsty (IRE), Estidhkaar (IRE), Fascinating Rock (IRE), Harzand (IRE), Kodi Bear (IRE), Markaz (IRE), Mehmas (IRE), New Bay, Pride Of Dubai, Prince Of Lir (IRE), The Gurkha (IRE), The Last Lion (IRE) and Vadamos.

Year-after-year the November Foal Sale has proved a fruitful buying ground for pinhookers. Glenvale Stud’s shrewd purchase of a No Nay Never filly for €52,000 was duly rewarded when selling to M.V Magnier for €700,000 at the Goffs Orby Sale less than 12 months later. Likewise, Morna McDowall more than quadrupled the €33,000 she paid for a No Nay Never filly when South African-based Form Bloodstock signed the €160,000 docket at Goffs Orby Sale.

On the racecourse the calibre of foals at the November Foal Sale was in evidence throughout 2018. Irish Derby hero Latrobe (IRE), Grade 1 Sword Dancer Stakes scorer Glorious Empire (IRE) and Grade 1 Natalma Stakes winner Le Pelosa (IRE) were all sourced at the auction in recent years, with the latter set to contest the Grade 1 Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf on November 2nd.
