A Message to John Oxx - From Israel TBA

16 October 2020

On behalf of the Thoroughbred Breeders of Israel I'd like to pass on our very best wishes to John Oxx on the news that he intends to hand in his license at the end of the current Flat season.

On the many occasions we have visited Ireland we have been warmly received by so many terrific people, but John and Caitriona have always made time for us and we have taken them very much to our hearts. That such an outstanding exponent of his profession shared his thoughts on training and breeding with us was a true privilege, and our regular tours of the yard combined with visits to Gilltown Stud to honour Sea The Stars will never be forgotten.

As one of the great international trainers John's record speaks for itself. There is little we can add to the much-deserved accolades he has received in the days since he announced his retirement. And as so many others have noted, even above and beyond his achievements on the turf it is the charming and modest way in which he has conducted himself that serves as an example and an inspiration to those that meet him.

We here in Israel hope John's retirement will allow him and his good lady to take time out to travel (when the world eventually gets back to some kind of normality), and we truly hope that one day he will visit us here in the Holy Land and give us the opportunity to return the generous hospitality he showed us so many times at Currabeg.

Happy retirement John!
